Once Upon A Prom: Date
1 minute until prom and counting…
Jordan – This is it. I’ve decided that I will not be attending my senior prom. Nobody can change my mind. Except for a certain dark-eyed boy…
Tara – I’ve always secretly liked Jordan’s boyfriend, Nate. Now that he’s MY prom date, things couldn’t be more dreamy or romantic. Or could they?
Nisha – The limo has arrived, I’m in my dress and heels…but my parents won’t let me go to the prom. Can I sneak out and make it in time?
Will everything work out, or are the girls in for a prom-tastic disaster?
Chapter One
“Mom, Dad. I have something important to tell you,” seventeen-year-old Nisha Khubani murmured as she studied her reflection in the full-length mirror in her room. Her large, almond-shaped brown eyes were earnest, which was good, but her tone…Too serious, she decided. I don’t want them to freak before they hear what I have to say.
She cleared her throat and tried again. “Hey, guys! Guess what?” This time she smiled brightly into the mirror. “I’ve had a secret boyfriend for the past six months. Isn’t that crazy? Oh, and FYI, we’re going to the prom together.
Perfect…if I want to be grounded for the rest of my life.
Frustrated, Nisha raked a hand through her long dark curls as she turned away from the mirror. She’d have to be clinically insane to just blurt out the truth like that. Her conservative Indian-born parents would be so angry, they’d put her on the first flight to Mumbai to live with her grandmother.
Okay, maybe not.
But her mom and dad would definitely be upset – partly because they didn’t believe in dating before marriage, partly because they thought they were being “modern” by setting Nisha up with a nice prom date named Raj, and partly because she’d been lying to them for what felt like a million years.
Nisha flopped face-first onto her white bedspread and stifled an exasperated moan with a cushy embroidered pillow. She squeezed her eyes closed, remembering the words her boyfriend, Brian Schroder, had uttered earlier that day: “…either tell your parents that we’re going to the prom together…or we’re not going together.”
